Have you recently noticed anything different about your Google messenger app? It’s now called Android Messages. Android has finally created a default universal messaging app on Android instead of users switching between WhatsApp, Allo, or Hangouts. Google has always wanted to create a standard messaging app and they are hoping to change the fractured system through Android Messages.
Furthermore, Google is also bringing the Rich Communication Services (RCS) standard to Android phones. They are looking to bring features such as location sharing, read receipts, and the ability to see when someone is typing. However, in order for this to be implemented Verizon, AT&T, and T-Mobile need to climb on board.
In the end, Apple devices have always taken the lead in messaging. It is one of the main reason people stay with Apple. A new name for the messenger won’t necessarily change the fact that Google has three different messaging apps but it does give Android users the hope that they can expect many improvements in the coming years.
