Researchers from Cybellum have recently discovered another technique that criminals can use to take over your computer. This attack called, DoubleAgent, exploits Microsoft’s Application Verifier w
hich is used by developers to fix bugs in their apps. In order to use this, developers have to load a DLL into their application but hackers use their own DLL, allowing the criminal to take control of any Windows computers.
Researchers have noted that any of these anti-virus apps are susceptible to the technique:
- Avast (CVE-2017-5567)
- AVG (CVE-2017-5566)
- Avira (CVE-2017-6417)
- Bitdefender (CVE-2017-6186)
- Trend Micro (CVE-2017-5565)
- Comodo
- ESET
- F-Secure
- Kaspersky
- Malwarebytes
- McAfee
- Panda
- Quick Heal
- Norton
The applications are trying to come out with security updates so be on the lookout.Until then, keep updating your devices.
