Do you think your login credentials are secure? Well get a hold of this. Hackers have been able to plug a flash-sized minicomputer into a Windows or OS X device and obtain the username and password used to log into the computer. How is this possible?
Engineer, Rob Fuller, said the hack is credited to the Hak5 Turtle and USB Armory devices. Here’s how it works:
- Hacker plugs the USB in
- USB Armory boots
- Login times out
- Credentials are obtained and USB Armory is fully shut down
It is incredible how this USB can obtain so much information and essentially unlock all the information in your computer. This hack even works on older Windows versions simply by converting to NTLM format, a suite of Microsoft security protocols. There is only one solution to this potential threat: keep an eye on your computer at all times!
